Hi, I’m Dr Sara Schamborg, a Practitioner Psychologist, Advanced Schema Therapist, and EMDR Therapist with over 15 years of experience supporting adults through trauma and mental health challenges.
I specialise in workplace trauma, work anxiety, and trauma more broadly. Most of the people I work with are functioning on the outside while struggling on the inside. They've often spent a long time wondering whether what they've been through is bad enough to need support, whether they're being too sensitive, or whether they should just be over it by now. They're not.
I founded You Matter Psychology because I wanted something different to exist. A space where you don't have to justify what happened, or prove that it mattered.
I am trained as a Practitioner Psychologist and have worked in NHS, criminal justice system, charity sector, and private practice throughout my career. I left the NHS to focus entirely on private practice, which allows me to offer the depth and continuity of work that meaningful change often requires.
I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and British Psychological Society (BPS). I hold advanced training in both EMDR Therapy and Schema Therapy, two evidence-based approaches that work at the level of what's underneath, rather than just managing day-to-day.
Alongside my clinical training, I have personal experience of some of the difficulties I specialise in. That shapes how I sit with clients. You won't need to convince me that what happened mattered, or justify why it has stayed with you. I already understand that the impact of harmful experiences doesn't simply end when the situation does.
I believe that most people who struggle after difficult experiences aren't struggling because something is wrong with them. They're struggling because something happened to them, and it hasn't yet been fully understood or processed. That distinction matters to me, and it shapes how I work.
I work with adults across the UK, online, and in person in Bristol. Many of my clients are navigating the aftermath of harmful or distressing experiences, whether at work or in life more broadly. Though if you feel my approach might suit you, I'd encourage you to reach out so we can explore whether we are a good fit.
If you're not sure whether what you've experienced counts, or whether therapy could help, that uncertainty is worth exploring. You don't have to have everything figured out before reaching out.
I offer a free initial consultation so we can have a conversation before you commit to anything. Get in touch by email and we can take it from there.

"I found talking to Sara so easy, she made it all feel safe and comfortable, gradually bad stuff drifted away... I can't thank Sara enough for all her help, it has really helped me a lot. It's got my life back on track".
"I was able to open up to Sara in a way I couldn’t with friends and family. She gave me a way to voice my thoughts, concerns, anxieties and sadness.
This in turn helped me to realise that I could actually open up to the people closest to me. I found that talking really gave me a new perspective on my issues and I was able to see things from a different angle".
"Sara was brilliant and I knew I’d get on with her from day one. I was able to be completely open with her, even when I was determined to hold certain facts back, she somehow made it ok to tell her everything.
We had a laugh as well as a lot of tears".
"I found Sara very approachable. From day one I felt comfortable sharing my experiences openly... Sara has a remarkable ability to understand and connect with others regardless of cultural background, and her competence across a range of techniques makes the therapy more effective and tailored. Throughout all our sessions, she consistently made me feel comfortable and ensured I looked after myself".
